One of the more unusual sights in the Canadian Rockies, these bright orange mineral pools look like natural paint pots!
The Paint Pots Trail is a short, family friendly walking path with boardwalk sections. Total return distance is around 1km, with very minimum elevation change, but you don't need to go all the way to see some of the pools.
Near the beginning, the trail crosses the Vermillion River. The water is very cold but the turquoise water is pretty to look at.
Please note that the ochre (clay based pigment) around the path can stain shoes, clothing and skin. After rain, the trail can be muddy.
A Parks Canada parks pass is required to explore Kootenay National Park ($22/day for a vehicle of up to 7 people).
