Tintagel Castle is -according to legend- the birthplace of King Arthur! While it is more ruins than castle, the views and the site are still worth going to. To get to the island with the castle ruins you'll cross a unique bridge, making the whole experience more fun. It can be windy at the top so pack layers!
The History: Built by Richard, 1st Earl of Cornwall in the 13th century, the castle fell into disrepair over time. Recent excavations have uncovered a palace from the 5th or 6th century, shedding light on its earlier high-status settlement. With its association with King Arthur and ongoing archaeological discoveries, Tintagel Castle is now a popular tourist destination managed by English Heritage.
