Motukiekie Beach is an incredible destination for photographers and geology-lovers alike, located on the South Island of New Zealand. With its coastal cliffs covered in lush native forests, the beach can only be accessed at low tide and rewards visitors with many fascinating landforms and starfish colonies to admire. Many layers of rocks with varying shapes, colours, and textures are sculpted by the sea and create ample photography opportunities. The seastacks up close are a unique sight to behold and require a 30 minute walk from the nearby roadside parking area.
The tide moves quickly in this area so please only attempt this walk on the outgoing low tide.
Sunset at Motukiekie beach is a special experience that cannot be missed. Take your wide angle lens with you for this one.
