Omey Island is a magical and mystical location located near Claddaghduff on the western edge of Connemara, in County Galway, Ireland. It is a tidal island with a rich history that dates back to the early 6th century, when monastic heritage began. Exploring Omey Island is like stepping back in time; visiting its holy well and Teampaill Feichin, the medieval parish church excavated from the sand in 1981 gives great insight into what it would have been like to live there centuries ago. Its sandbanks are also the site of the annual Omey Races, a horse racing event held every summer.
