El Guachito is a small hole in the wall on Avenida Independencia frying up the best meat empanadas in Buenos Aires, and that is a hill I am willing to die on.
The owner is from La Rioja in the northwest. The menu is large but all you need to order are the fried meat empanadas. Not baked. Fried. Not Spinach. MEAT.
Thank me later.
Get a glass of red wine to go with it, as tradition dictates.
You can eat inside, the restaurant is small but the insane amount of decor is quite the vibe. You can also take your empanadas to go and eat them in Plaza Dorrego three blocks away while you watch the tango dancers perform for the restuarants here.
Whatever you do, make sure to enjoy the oil and herb based sauce, spooning a bit onto each bite. It's the owner's secret family recipe.
