Pizzería Angelín has been making pizza here in Villa Crespo (on the border of Palermo) since 1938. It was founded by Oscar Pintos, an Italian immigrant.
They're claim to fame is being the creators of the pizza canchera, a cheese-less pizza with actually flavorful sauce featuring actual spices (not common here, let's be honest!).
Legend has it that Oscar was looking for an easy way to sell pizzas outside futbol stadiums. Making pizzas without cheese was not only cheaper, but easier to transport. He could easily stack the pizzas without worrying about cheese sticking and sliding everywhere. The name canchera comes from this pizza being sold outside of the stadiums, or canchas de futbol.
Fun fact: Frank Sinatra was a regular here when in town!
