A town very often overlooked.

Litohoro is built right on the foothills of Mt Olympus and it’s an ideal base if you wish to ascend to the top, or just drive in the area, around the mountain aiming to do some exploration.

The photo you see is taken at Agiou Nikolaou street, a major road in Litohoro. The mountain you see is obviously Mt Olympus. You can see even see Mytikas, the very top, on a clear day. You can see it on the picture (the left tip of the two). And this makes for excellent photos.

Litohoro is full of hotels and tavernas, stretched from the mountain to the sea. Yes, the sea is actually very very close by! Which makes it an excellent location not only for winter, but summer too.

If you’re looking to get a little deeper into the mountain, drive to Prionia, a mountain hut at an altitude of 1,000m. There’s a taverna there and this is where usually hikers begin their ascent to the summits.
