Loutro is a seaside fishing village and one of the most popular stops along the coastline of southern Crete.
It can only be reached by sea and is connected by ferry to Sfakia, Agia Roumeli and Paleochora. This tiny picturesque village looks like it could be somewhere in the Cyclades, hence the rocky, dry setting and the whitewashed houses with blue doors and windows.
Another way to access Loutro, other than the ferry, is via the E4 hiking trail from Marmara, a beautiful hike of around an hour and a half that I absolutely recommend.
There are a few accommodation options at Loutro, so spending the night there is an excellent idea.
