This trail loops around the beautiful Gelmersee lake, famous for the steep open-air funicular train that takes you to the lake. It passes waterfalls and rivers along the way, with spectacular views of the lake and surrounding mountains.
Trail: moderate • 2 h • 4.5 k loop • 120m up and down
See trail map
The path is quite rocky with lots of uneven terrain. Some parts have steep slopes to the side that could be dangerous.
We've done this trail with kids many times, but you have to be very careful. It's not a beginner trail, best if you have good fitness, hiking experience, and no fear of heights.
Tip: For your picnic, we like the far side of the lake near the waterfalls or the outcropping of rocks on the north side of the lake.
