The Lower Falls of Johnston Canyon is one of the most popular and photogenic spots in Banff National Park. A 1.2 km (2.4 km round trip) hike along scenic catwalks leads to a viewing platform where you can admire the rushing waterfall as it tumbles into a turquoise pool. For a closer look, a small cave lets you peer through a natural window, offering an up-close and misty perspective of the falls.
Due to its popularity, expect long waits at the cave entrance during peak hours. To avoid the crowds, we highly recommend visiting early in the morning or in the evening, when the canyon is quieter, and the experience feels even more magical. You can visit the canyon during any season and it's always magical.
The summer photos were taken at 8:30 pm on a summer evening.
