This is a relatively hidden gem just west of Reykjavík in a town called Seltjarnarnes (my hometown actually). There is a small island with a lighthouse and a few houses connected to land by a narrow strip. This 5-hectare island is a nature lover's paradise, boasting unspoiled landscapes and diverse birdlife with over 100 species spotted in the area. During the breeding season from May to July, the island is off-limits to visitors, but the rest of the year offers a unique opportunity to explore the rich flora and fauna of this tranquil spot.
QUICK NOTES:
What it is: A lighthouse on a small island off Seltjarnarnes peninsula.
Best season: Any (but the island itself is off-limits from May to July).
Best time of day: Sunset and low tide if you want to walk onto the island.
Nice to know: When the tide is low you can actually walk onto the island (just make sure you don't get trapped there!).
