Goa Gajah, also known as Elephant Cave, is a Hindu temple located in Bali, Indonesia. It was built in the 9th century and served as a sanctuary for spiritual meditation. The exact origins of the cave are uncertain, but it is believed to have been created by the legendary giant Kebo Iwa or during the 11th century Bali Kingdom. The temple is famous for its menacing carved faces that are said to ward off evil spirits. Inside the cave, there are Hindu and Buddhist symbols, including lingam and yoni, as well as an image of Ganesha. Visitors can access the cave by walking down a long flight of stairs and are required to wear a sarong before entering. Goa Gajah was added to the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List in 1995 but was later removed.
