Hut-to-hut hiking in the Dolomites is a bucket-list adventure that combines breathtaking trails with cozy alpine accommodations. Known as rifugi, these mountain huts provide hikers with a comfortable place to rest, enjoy hearty meals, and connect with fellow adventurers. To plan your hut-to-hut hike, start by choosing a route that fits your skill level and interests. Popular options include the Alta Via 1 and Alta Via 2, which offer stunning views, well-marked trails, and access to a variety of rifugi.

Once you’ve chosen your route, book your rifugi in advance, especially during the high season (July to September). Many huts offer private or shared rooms, as well as hot meals featuring local specialties. Pack light but bring essentials like sturdy hiking boots, layers for changing weather, and a refillable water bottle. Most rifugi have blankets and meals, so you can leave your tent and cooking gear at home.

Transportation to trailheads is straightforward, with buses and trains connecting major towns to starting points. For example, you can begin the Alta Via 1 near Cortina d’Ampezzo or the Alta Via 2 near Brixen. Hiking hut-to-hut means carrying only a daypack, as your accommodation is already arranged. Along the way, enjoy awe-inspiring views of jagged peaks, alpine meadows, and crystal-clear lakes, all while knowing a warm meal and bed await you at the end of the day.
