Baldvinsskáli is a super cozy mountain hut right along the Fimmvörðuháls hiking trail, making it a great spot to rest up between Skógar and Þórsmörk. It’s got a small dining area and kitchen downstairs, and a dormitory upstairs that can sleep up to 16 people. The hut is pretty basic but certainly comfy—there’s running water, a simple outhouse, and you’ll need to pack out any trash you bring in. Sitting at over 1,000 meters, the weather here can be a bit wild, so make sure to come prepared. If you want to stay the night, it’s a good idea to book ahead through the Iceland Touring Association’s website. Perfect for breaking up the trek and soaking in the epic volcanic landscape.
