Oldest geothermal swimming pool in Iceland

Seljavallalaug is one of Iceland’s oldest swimming pools and it’s hidden away in a valley that feels totally off the grid. 🏞️ Built in 1923, it’s a natural geothermal pool surrounded by mountains, with a little stream trickling nearby — the whole place feels wild and rugged.

The walk to get there is about 20 minutes from the car park, through a scenic (sometimes muddy!) trail. And once you arrive? It’s like you’ve stepped into a secret spot that time forgot.

The challenge is to dip in the frozen stream and then dip back into the pool!

Heads up: the pool isn’t super warm — it’s more lukewarm — and it’s not the most pristine, but that’s part of the charm. It’s a bit rustic and raw, but totally Instagram-worthy. 📸 Just you, the mountains, and the steam rising off the water.
