If you love adventure, rugged scenery from Tors to waterfalls, wildlife and a sense of being truly surrounded by nature then this week long itinerary exploring Dartmoor is for you!
Dartmoor National Park is 368 square miles which means it’s about the same size as London! Essentially it’s huge, and so if you want to explore a lot of the highlights, I’d recommend a week and splitting it in to three different stays so that you’re not spending all your time in the car.
I’ve suggested breaking this week up into three areas, the West, East and North and we’re starting with the West first! I’ve suggested staying in The Horn of Plenty, a beautiful country house hotel with award winning restaurant just 5 minutes outside the charming town of Tavistock.

Once you have arrived and checked in to your hotel, I’ve suggested a quick venture out on to the moors to get you excited for all that you’re about to enjoy this week, and we’re starting with a good one, Sheepstor!
If you have more time, I’d really recommend doing the circular Burrator Reservoir hike which takes in beautiful tors, woodlands and of course views of the reservoir. If you just want to get out for a quick and easy adventure though, then park below Sheepstor and head on a short but steep walk to the top of the tor. The views here are epic and are particularly special at sunset!

On the way back to your hotel, stop in to Tavistock and grab some dinner at The Cornish Arms. This cosy and traditional pub, serves excellent local produce. After, make your way back to your hotel and get some sleep ready for your week of exploring Dartmoor National Park!
