Sheepstor is another of my must see tors to visit in Dartmoor, as it’s a relatively short walk that rewards you with stunning views at the summit.
Setting out from the car park, you will make your way east along the road as it passes by the two dam walls along the southern edge of the Burrator Reservoir before breaking off onto a footpath to the northeast.
There is an enchanting small section of forest, with crooked trees and rocks covered in moss, before passing through a wooden gate with the the tor directly in front of you. Continue along the path, it’s all up until you get to the summit, and while it does look steep and can seen quite intimidating, the short distance means it’s actually not too strenuous. The views at the top of the tor are a worthy reward, with expansive views over the moorland, across to Leather Tor and Sharpitor. You can make your descent along the same path to retrace your footsteps on the way back to the trailhead or continue your adventure along one of the other trails that continue from here.
If you can make it here for sunset or sunrise, you’ll be even more bowled over by the beauty of this area!
