Bowcombe Bridge, also known as New Bridge, is a historic drawbridge in Kingsbridge that dates back to the 10th century. It divides the land between the Royal Estates of Alvington and Chillington, hence the name Kingsbridge! The bridge was rebuilt in 1826 by engineer James M Rendel using hydraulic power for the first time.
Today, it offers stunning estuary views, especially at sunrise, and it’s the ideal spot for water sports like sailing, kayaking, and paddle boarding and even wild swimming. There is a grassy area next to the bridge which is popular spot for a picnic in the summer!
