Arashiyama Rakan is a small spot in Arashiyama with all sorts of peculiar statues. These Rakan (Arhat) figures - Buddhist disciples - each have unique expressions, ranging from serene to downright quirky. Some look deep in thought, others seem to be laughing, and a few have a slightly eerie feel, making the whole place an interesting mix of solemn and playful.
If you visit in February or March, you might also catch the plum trees in bloom, depending on the weather. Their bright flowers add a beautiful contrast to the stone figures, making the place feel even more special.
