Local Guide of Vatnajökull is the best for glacier hikes and ice cave tours in the area! They offer two different glacier hiking experiences:

1. Glacier Discovery is 4-hours of fun with about 2 hours spent on the ice. It is an in-depth glacier experience, longer hike, with a bit more adventure.

2. Glacier Encounter is a 3-hour tour with 1 hour spent on the ice. This is Local Guide's best selling experience with a short and easy hike at a more budget friendly price point.

During both tours you will experience the mighty Vatnajökull, Europe's largest glacier by hiking on the outlet glacier, Falljökull, named for its incredible blue icefall. You'll meet and depart from Local Guide's meeting point at Freysnes Service station with all necessary glacier gear. After a super-jeep ride, you'll put on your crampons by the glacier’s edge,  grab an ice axe and begin the ascent over 300 meters up towards the ice fall. Surrounded by blue ice  and peaks carved by glaciers have your eyes peeled for crevasses,  moulins, waterfalls and any other fun features that spring up in the dynamic glacial landscape. During the hike your guide will tell you about the geography and history of the area, and explain glacial features.

Local Guide's glacier hikes are available from April - September. The minimum age for regular glacier hikes is 8 years old however, private hikes can accommodate children as young as 5. As long as your child is able to walk on the ice unassisted, they are welcome!

Note: Local Guide of Vatnajökull also has another glacier experience, Glacier Ice Climbing, a 4-hour tour with hiking and climbing off-the-beaten track (available from June - August for ages 16+).
