Lake Tekapo is a Dark sky reserve with amazing stargazing. Visit during lupin season November- start of Jan for lupins

Further information: Lake Tekapo is a great destination for travellers interested in getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Located on the eastern side of the Southern Alps, this small town is home to some of New Zealand's most spectacular natural sights, including its largest Dark Sky Reserve and the stunningly blue Lake Tekapo. Visitors can spend their days taking part in activities such as star gazing, exploring the area's hot springs, photographing the Church of the Good Shepherd, enjoying the lupins in bloom, and visiting Lake Alexandrina. Thrill seekers can take advantage of skiing and snowtubing in winter or check out the Mackenzie Sheepdog Statue for a beautiful view of the lake and mountains beyond. Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway or a fun and active vacation, Lake Tekapo has something for everyone!
