Vík í Mýrdal, the southernmost village in Iceland, is known for its stunning black sand beach and dramatic cliffs teeming with seabirds, including puffins. Legend has it that the offshore basalt rock stacks are actually trolls caught by the rising dawn. Despite its small size, Vík is an important service center for locals and visitors exploring the coastal area. The town faces the looming threat of a potential eruption from the nearby Katla volcano, which could trigger a devastating flash flood. This is also a great place to stop for lunch, with some tasty restaurants located in the town.
