It is in Poça da Dona Beija, located in Furnas, on the Island of São Miguel, that you can enjoy unique moments of relaxation in warm thermal waters. A mandatory experience during your stay in the Azores.

This is one of the most visited places by tourists, given its characteristics and magic.

It is divided into 5 pools / hot thermal water tanks, with different depths and average temperatures. Called Ribeira, Serena, Mystic, Thermae Conviviality and Meditation.

The strong yellow color of water is due to the presence of cyanobacteria, photosynthetic oxygenic beings that, in iron-rich environments, react with free iron, oxidizing it and leading it to its precipitation.

The best time to visit is at sunset. It costs 6 euros + 2 euros for a towel, 1 euro key for a left-luggage office. As a deposit for a towel and a key, they take either 20 euros or car keys.

Better to book a visit in advance by giving them a call.

Benefits of thermal hot water: Increases blood circulation; Reduces stress; Relieves pain, naturally Help in solving skin problems

The temperature of each available tank varies, with an average temperature of 39ºC. In each pool you will find its name, temperature and also the depth described.

One of the great advantages is the time, which lasts until 11:00 p.m. local time. Since the last entry is only accepted until 10:15 p.m. and users must leave the pools at 10:45 p.m.

Opening: 8:30 am Closing: 11:00 p.m.

The maximum length of stay at Poça da Dona Beija is 1h30

Tips to enjoy Dona Beija's Poça Since this is a prestigious place, you should take into account some aspects in your visit.

It is recommended that you wear a dark swimsuit or swimsuits. Given the iron waters, light-colored swimwear tends to have a yellowish / orange color that - often - will be difficult to remove. If you want to enjoy the space without many people, visit it in the early hours of the day (between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.); Did you catch a rainy day? Don't worry, being in the hot thermal waters while it rains at the same time will be a unique experience! At the time of summer it is recommended that you frequent this place in the coldest hours (morning or evening). During the day and under the hot sun you may feel extreme heat. It is not allowed to eat in the room. So you should not carry any kind of food with you to the enclosure. Given the size of the various pools / tanks, you should respect the space of the other users. It is not allowed to jump, dive or swim in the thermal waters.
