The Hells of Beppu, which made for an amazing day that was way more fun than we expected, are a collection of seven bubbling onsen hell spots located in Beppu's Kannawa and Kamegawa regions that have been spooking guests and locals since ancient times. These mysterious springs feature boiling water, gas expulsions, iron oxide-rich steam, and bubbling hot mud, and you'll have fun walking from one hot pool to another, as all are very different. Be sure to get a book and collect stamps from each of the foot pools as you explore each of the seven hells. Don't miss out on this quirky and fascinating experience in Beppu where you can see crocodiles at one of the pools ("alligator hell" houses around 80 alligators), cook an egg in water from another, try unique steamed dishes cooked using the natural heat, and even inhale the sulfur and drink the water!
