Housed in a beautifully renovated historic building from the early 1800s, Sorelle is a show-stopping addition to Charleston’s dining scene. The “spare no expense” renovation has transformed the space into a luxurious Italian-inspired restaurant with brass accents, marble-topped tables, and stunning inlaid tile work. The entrance opens into an all-day café and market for coffee, pastries, and casual bites, while the main restaurant and bar extend beyond. The centerpiece is the bar, opening at 4:30 PM and quickly becoming the lively heart of the restaurant, with its salmon-colored velvet chairs always in high demand.

What’s the Crowd Like?

Expect a mix of well-heeled South of Broad locals and tourists soaking up the ambiance. The atmosphere is celebratory but not pretentious, with plenty of groups starting their evening with drinks at the bar before moving to their tables.

What Should We Be Drinking?

While the cocktails (especially the espresso martini) are excellent, the wine program is the true highlight. With over 300 bottles and a focus on wines from Northern and Central Italy, as well as Italian varietals grown elsewhere, Sorelle’s wine list is a dream for oenophiles. The by-the-glass offerings include over 30 options, with Coravin pours allowing you to sample premium selections. Whether you’re a wine connoisseur or just starting to explore Italian wines, you’re in good hands here.

Main Event: The Food. Does It Deliver?

Absolutely. While the café offerings like salads, pastries, and wood-fired pizzas are great for daytime diners, the dinner menu is where Sorelle truly shines. The dishes are refined, modern takes on Italian cuisine, perfectly suited to the sophisticated city vibe.

  • Must-Try Dishes:

    • Cheese-filled Puffs: Topped with prosciutto and caviar, these are a luxurious starter.

    • Ricotta Tortelloni: The “Pillows of Gold” live up to their name with a rich and tender filling.

    • Rucola E Finocchio Salad: A standout with wild fennel and roasted vegetables.

    • Grouper Alla Puttanesca: A beautiful dish featuring blistered tomatoes and bold, balanced flavors.

The menu feels both refined and approachable, and the Chef's Experience is ideal for adventurous diners looking to sample the best of what Sorelle has to offer.

How Was the Service?

Service is warm, polished, and knowledgeable. The bar staff, in particular, is well-versed in the extensive wine offerings, and the servers know the menu inside and out, ready to recommend their favorite dishes. Even when things get busy, the staff maintains a calm and pleasant demeanor.

Why Should You Come Here?

Sorelle is the perfect spot for business dinners, celebrations, or a sophisticated night out. It’s also ideal for anyone who appreciates a strong wine program paired with elegant Italian cuisine. The bar has a “see and be seen” vibe, while the dining room feels equally welcoming for intimate gatherings or special occasions. Families with small children might feel a bit out of place, but for everyone else, Sorelle is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser.
