The Laguna del Caminante, located in the Tierra del Fuego National Park near Ushuaia in Argentina, is a fourteenth mile point-to-point trail that takes an average of eight to ten hours to complete. Experienced hikers with good physical conditioning and a love for adventure will be delighted by this challenging and rewarding 25-kilometer tour. The route passes through native forests, mountains and peat bogs, where visitors can take in stunning vistas like the Laguna del Caminante, the Laguna Superior and a remarkable limestone cave known as Cueva de Jimbo. It is possible to camp along the lagoon, but open fires are strictly prohibited and visitors should ensure they leave no trace of their passage. Trekkers will need to apply to register online in advance before embarking on this joyous voyage, and be sure to bring waterproof shoes and perhaps a sturdy hiking pole to make the most of the extraordinary sights.
