By far one of the best hidden gems I have found so far. We went here while on a walk around Mt Wakakusa and ended up with one of the best sunset spots in Nara! There were only a few locals here and we saw one of the most spectacular sunset here. (Which is why I highly recommend you come here last - the sun walk took around 40mins from Nara Old Town, so don't start too late!

Nigatsudo is situated on the hillside of Mount Wakakusa and is part of the larger Todai-ji temple complex. The hall was founded in 752 but the current main hall, which houses two secret Buddha statues, was rebuilt in 1669 after a fire destroyed the original structure. I found the whole complex super impressive and absolutely enjoyed exploring the grounds.
