The Ogimachi Castle Ruin Observation Area offers a stunning view of the Gassho Style Village below. Once you enter Shirakawago, go immediately to the left for the shortest wax up. There is a bus that goes every 20mins up to the area or you can walk a rather steep path for 10-15mins. I did not find it too bad, but it is demanding, I was quite out of breath towards the end. I highly recommend to go up there shortly before lunch time to get this area mostly to yourself!
