Hverir is a geothermal area located in northeastern Iceland, near Lake Mývatn. It is a popular tourist destination known for its unique and otherworldly landscape, characterized by bubbling mud pools, steaming vents, and vibrant colors caused by the minerals in the soil. The area is highly active geothermally, with temperatures reaching up to 400°C just a few meters below the surface.

You can explore the Hverir area on a series of walking paths, which wind through the various geothermal features. The paths are marked for safety, as the geothermal activity can be unpredictable and dangerous. Be aware of the strong sulfuric odor in the area, which can be overwhelming at times.
