People underestimate this hike, but what do they know? They've been fooled by youtube video makers seeking for audience. This is an adventure for those seeking panoramic views of Patagonia’s two most iconic peaks: Cerro Torre and Mont Fitz Roy.

If you only have one day in El Chaltén, I would definitely recommend spending your precious time on this trail of medium difficulty, little known by tourists and with a truly impressive and complete view.

The trail begins just outside the town center, near the National Park Visitor Center, and spans about 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) each way, with a steady climb gaining around 1,000 meters (3,280 feet) in elevation. This moderately challenging hike takes you through diverse landscapes, starting with a peaceful lenga forest and gradually transitioning to open grasslands and rocky terrain as you ascend. The effort is richly rewarded at the summit, where you’ll enjoy sweeping views of Mount Fitz Roy, Cerro Torre, and the surrounding glaciers and valleys.

As mentioned above, trail is less crowded than others, making it perfect for a day of solitude and immersion in nature.

PRO TIP:
1. Prepare for strong winds at the summit, as the trail culminates in an open area with breathtaking 360º views but minimal natural barriers to shield you from the gusts.

2. The trail’s only reliable source of potable water is near the summit, close to the end, though additional streams may appear in summer—but they’re not guaranteed.

3. Great trail for cóndor sightseeing
