Stromatolites Park
Stromatolites are mineral structures built by a type of bacteria over millions of years, it is said that they are like living fossils since they have been forming for thousands of years.
The stromatolite park is located in the Swan Lagoon, just 6 kilometers from Porvenir, the main city of Tierra del Fuego on the Chilean side.
It is one of the few places in the world where these geobiological systems are found, offering the possibility of investigating ecosystems similar to those that gave rise to life on the planet, being of great interest to the scientific world.
Just a few years ago the park was created to protect this place, where a long walkway was made so that it would not be completely crushed by visitors.
Stromatolites are bioconstructed mineral structures due to the activity of microbial populations. These organo-sedimentary conformations develop attached to a substrate and protrude from it, producing great morphological and volumetric varieties.
