First up, I'm manifesting that you get good weather; I've visited these spots a heap of times and have had my fair share of weather - but when the sun is out, these spots are such a dream! (still amazing when the weather is average, but you know what I mean)

My tips for photos:

  1. Best Time to Visit:

    • Arrive at sunrise for the best lighting conditions and to avoid the crowds. The golden hour light is softer and adds a warm glow to the water and boulders. Plus, there’s no harsh glare from the sun reflecting off the water.

    • Start at Greens Pool first. The light here is more even in the early morning, and you can capture the calm, crystal-clear water with minimal shadows.

  2. Elephant Rocks Timing:

    • Save Elephant Rocks for later in the morning, once the sun rises a little higher. The massive boulders cast heavy shadows in the early morning, which can make it tricky to photograph their details or capture the full scene without harsh contrasts.

  3. Drone Photography:

    • If you’ve got a drone, this is the spot to send it up. From above, you’ll get jaw-dropping views of the turquoise water, white sand, and the unique shapes of the boulders.

    • Elephant Rocks from above is especially stunning, as the rocks resemble elephants wading into the water—something you really appreciate with the aerial perspective.

    • Keep an eye out for any signage regarding drone use and respect local rules or wildlife.

  4. Composition Ideas:

    • At Greens Pool, focus on the clear water and white sand—try incorporating some of the smaller boulders in the foreground to add depth.

    • For Elephant Rocks, get low near the water for dramatic angles or climb nearby trails for elevated views (or use the drone).

These spots are honestly a dream—you’ll leave with some magic shots!

My Tips for Visiting:

Greens Pool - visit here first, aim for sunrise!

Greens Pool is definitely a spot you want to hit up early, especially if you’re into your sunrises. The calm, clear waters are the perfect start to your day, and it’s a bit more peaceful in the morning. If you’re planning to head to Elephant Rocks after, visiting Greens Pool first will help you dodge those shadows that creep up as the day goes on – trust me, you’ll thank me later - so visit Greens Pool first, then head to Elephant Rocks.

The bay here is super sheltered by rocks, so it feels like a natural swimming pool, and the water is crystal clear. I even went all out and put on my goggles and (personalised, lol) swim cap for a few laps – felt like a weapon! The locals swim here quite often, so you’re in good company. Plus, the deeper rocks around the bay offer protection from the swell, making it a super safe and peaceful spot to enjoy a morning swim.

The rocks also attract such a nice warmth as the sun rises, so it's so nice to lay and chill on the rocks as it the day heats up!

Elephant Rocks - visit here after Greens Pool, later morning.

WORTH THE HYPE!

Elephant Rocks is a popular spot, and for good reason; the huge granite boulders are seriously stunning, especially when the sky’s clear and the sun’s shining. Trust me, get there early to avoid the crowds, but not too early – the shadows are pretty massive thanks to how enormous these rocks are, so it’s better to wait until the sun’s up a bit. If you’ve got a drone, even better – this spot was made for aerial shots.

One thing no one tells you, though, is about the march flies (yep, those pesky little buggers!). They can get pretty annoying when you’re just hanging out on the rocks, so just be aware if you’re planning to chill for a bit. The flies might not be ideal, but they’re so worth it for the views!

As for the water, it’s freezing, but it’s honestly so refreshing once you get in!

ENJOY!!
