Arbroath Abbey, founded in 1178 by King William the Lion, is a historic Scottish monastery known for its association with the Declaration of Scottish Independence. The Abbey's rich history includes being the burial place of King William and the site where the Stone of Destiny was found. Despite falling into ruin after the Reformation, efforts have been made to preserve its incredible red sandstone ruins, making it a popular tourist attraction in Arbroath.

The Abbey's unique architecture, including the distinctive Round 'O' window, adds to its charm and historical significance. While not open all year round (it closes in the winter), you can still enjoy many parts of this Abbey without needing to go through the visitor centre.
