There are plenty of online guides to Japan out there. Matt's will point you to less-touristed spots focused on affordable (or free!) outdoor activities, onsens, and cultural spots. The content is primarily in the prefectures around Nagano, so if you are interested in traveling to that area, Matt's guide is a must!

Matt makes great content on Instagram and so I was keen to try his recommendations on Rexby. My family is coming to visit me in Japan at Christmas and we are using Matt's tips to plan our trip to Niigata. Thanks Matt for all the great info!

Hi! Im.MattGuy!

After 15 years exploring all of Japan's 47 prefectures, I've built an incredible collection of places on my Google Maps. I seriously can not see my map from all the drop pins...

Now, I’m refining this list to share only my top recommendations for those who crave adventure, love the outdoors, and appreciate Japan’s unique cultural experiences away from the usual tourist paths. My dynamic map is continually growing, crafted specifically for people like you who want to experience the authentic side of Japan. I’ll also connect with map users to gather feedback and listen to what you'd like to explore so I can make this map even better for you!

My map is perfect for those in search of adventure. It covers everything from top hikes, ski resorts, hot springs, camping spots, scenic photo locations, cultural highlights, as well as unique accommodations and food stops—with insider tips on popular attractions too. And as a devoted coffee lover, I'm always hunting for Japan’s best coffee spots, so you’ll find those on my map as well!

What sets me apart? Travel has been the core of my life, and I understand how essential reliable information and thoughtful recommendations are for creating the best experiences on any trip. While I’ve traveled Japan extensively, I’ve also explored over 60 countries and lived in 6, gathering insights and lessons along the way. My travel advice and tips aim to be a one-stop-shop for those looking to dive into Japan with all the vital information covered in my articles.

With each new destination added, my map aims to help travelers connect with smaller towns and hidden villages, supporting local communities and promoting tourism beyond the typical spots. Join me on this journey, and let’s uncover the true heart of Japan, one adventure at a time!

Happy travels!
