The Oyashirazu Cliffs is a beautiful scenic drive along and above the coastline. The road follows the mountains curves and juts out over the ocean. Driving through the impressive engineering feat is a great feeling looking out to the sea.

The signage at the view point gives some interesting information in both English and Japanese. Apparently, this road was once considered to be the most dangerous crossing in Japan. Hundreds of years ago, people would walk this trail to travel from north to south and vice versa. There have been 4 generations of upgrades over the years which makes this place quite historically interesting. You are able to walk on the older paths and see the older Japanese characters carved in rock high above the cliff.

Make sure to do the short loop trail which takes you down to the old path where you will find a long brick tunnel once used for a train. As you loop around you will walk through a scenic cove where, if you visit in fall season, there will be beautiful leaves with a waterfall backdrop.

Don't forget to keep an eye out for jade while you're there!
