This 3.5 km loop trail near Port Alberni, British Columbia, is an excellent option for an easy hike, taking about an hour to complete. While it’s a popular spot for hiking and running, it’s still possible to find quiet moments, especially outside peak hours.

The trail leads into Fossli Provincial Park, but getting there requires driving almost four kilometres on a gravel road to reach the trailhead. Once on the trail, you’ll come across a suspension bridge over the creek, and just downstream, there’s a small but beautiful waterfall. In the spring, the area comes alive with wildflowers and berries, and the trail eventually leads to a peaceful beach on Sproat Lake.

For photography, the best time to capture the waterfall is mid to late spring when the surrounding moss and ferns are at their best. If the water levels are too high, crossing the creek to get closer can be tricky, so waiting for a lower flow can make things easier. A polarizer filter helps cut glare and bring out the rich greens of the foliage.
