Here are all the places to see that are easily reachable by Ferry:
CERNOBBIO
Cernobbio is the first village to stop along the western shore of Lake Como. The heart of the town is Piazza Risorgimento on the lakeside. In the square, surrounded by trees and restaurants with outdoor tables, there is the War Memorial. From here boats leave for Como and the other villages.
Villas to visit in Cernobbio:
Villa Erba, built in 1894 and commissioned by Luigi Erba, brother of the pharmaceutical entrepreneur Carlo. Today it is an exhibition and conference center that hosts international events. It can only be visited during certain periods of the year. At certain times of the year, guided tours of the park are organised. The ticket can be purchased on the Villa Bernasconi website.
Villa Bernasconi, an Art Nouveau villa commissioned by the textile entrepreneur Davide Bernasconi at the end of the 19th century. The villa hosts an interactive museum that takes you through the history of the family that lived there and of the Silk Textures. Villa Bernasconi is open from Friday to Monday from 10am to 6pm. The ticket costs 5 euros and booking on the website is mandatory.
Villa Pizzo, along the road to Moltrasio. It can only be visited with guided tours that take you through the interiors furnished with period furniture and the gardens. The visits take place on weekends and can be booked on the site. The ticket costs 15 euros.
LAGLIO
Laglio has had a peak of notoriety since 2002 when Villa Oleandra was purchased by George Clooney and began to be frequented by many Hollywood stars. But "VIP watching" is not the only reason to visit this delightful town on Lake Como. The center of the village is made up of well-kept streets and stone houses and the lakeside is dotted with wonderful villas, in addition to that of the famous actor.
ARGEGNO
Argegno is a delightful medieval village that you will encounter along the Strada Regina along the western shore of Lake Como. Its colorful houses overlooking the lake immediately struck me and convinced me to stop for an ice cream in the pretty square. From here there are alleys that lead to the stone village and the Roman bridge over the Telo river.
Villa del Balbianello - One of the most bautiful Villas on Lake Como
TREMEZZO
The central location on the west shore of Lake Como makes this village an ideal choice as a base to stay to visit the lake by boat.
What to see in Tremezzo:
Villa Carlotta, today a museum that houses masterpieces by Canova, Hayez and Thorvaldsen, surrounded by a wonderful botanical garden;
Villa Sola Cabiati, overlooking the lake, hosts events and weddings;
Teresio Olivelli Civic Park of Villa Meier;
Villa Amila, built in 1931 by the architect Pietro Lingeri, in a style inspired by naval architecture which differentiates it from other villas and makes it an important example of rationalist architecture.
MENAGGIO
Menaggio is a lively village, its center revolves around Piazza Garibaldi, overlooking the lake and surrounded by restaurants and shops.
BELLAGIO
Bellagio is known as the "pearl of the Lario" and is the most fashionable resort on Lake Como. It has a unique position, in the center of the promontory that divides the two branches of the lake, Lecco and Como.
VARENNA
Varenna is a small village on the eastern shore of Lake Como and for me it is the most romantic and evocative.
If you arrive in Varenna by boat, to reach the center of the village from the pier you will have to walk along the promenade degli Innamorati (or promenade of Love), a walkway with a red metal structure which in spring is covered with flowers.
What to See in Varenna:
Villa Monastero is one of the most beautiful villas on Lake Como. It is a house-museum, with the original furnishings inside, surrounded by a botanical garden;
Gardens of Villa Cipressi, near Villa Monastero, today it is a luxury hotel but it is possible to visit the garden;
Vezio Castle, a fortification that overlooks Varenna from above. In addition to an interesting route inside the castle, the gardens host a bird of prey training centre.
