Tsumeb, located in northern Namibia, is a city of around 15,000 people and the largest town in the Oshikoto region. It is often referred to as the "gateway to the north" due to its proximity to the Etosha National Park. The town was founded in 1905 by German colonial power and celebrated its 100th year of existence in 2005. It is known for its amazing mineral deposits including gem-quality dioptase crystals and copper ore that it produces. Tsumeb is nearby two large sinkhole lakes, Lake Otjikoto and Lake Guinas, which have become major attractions for both divers and tourists alike. Besides its geological heritage, Tsumeb also houses the world's biggest meteorite, the Hoba West. There are many commercial farms around Tsumeb that provide agricultural products such as citrus fruits, maize, sorghum, and sunflowers. Ultimately, this city offers visitors a unique combination of geological wonderment and rural farm culture that creates an unforgettable experience.
