Saurbæjarkirkja is a beautiful and unique Icelandic church in the Eyjafjörður region of the country. Built in 1858 by Olaf Briem, this turf and stone structure features thick walls that help protect against the sometimes tumultuous Icelandic weather! Inside, visitors can admire the wooden frame construction that, along with the notable lack of a tower, gives the church a rural and rustic atmosphere. The bells hang from the front gable, adding to the quaintness of the building. Under the care of the National Museum of Iceland, Saurbæjarkirkja is an enchanting attraction for locals and tourists alike!
