The Liberation Monument at Maribor was built in 1975 to honor the nearly 700 hostages and rebels killed by German forces during WWII. Designed by Slavko Tihec, this 7m tall bronze sculpture sits in Freedom Square and features engravings of Partisan heroes. The monument is also known as 'Kodžak' which means "bald" in Slovenian - the nickname was earned because it resembles a bald head.
