Lake Sils is the largest and most scenic of the Upper Engadine lakes. Lined by larch forests, it offers hikers, walkers and water sports enthusiasts pure nature. Whether golden autumn, wintry black ice or as a snow-covered cross-country ski trail, every season is a great experience at Lake Sils.
Summer is great if you want to come here and have a walk around and even swim. Autumn is maybe the most fantastic season since the larches turn golden and that makes it so special. But also winter is nice: If you catch the few days when the lake is frozen and black ice is built then you an skate and it's truly unique (check first on the local website for this). And of course from January to March/April lake Sils covered in snow is fantastic for cross country skiing.
Photography tips: In general here, the earlier the better. From 11AM onwards usually the wind from Maloja pass rises (So called "Maloja") and the reflection will be gone. If you are staying in the village it's easy to walk to the shore and find the perfect photo spot. If you come by car I recommend to park at the parking lot Lurench Baselgia and then it takes you about 20 min walking to the shore.
