Olympos is a traditional village on Karpathos that is located in the northern part of Karpathos. From Pigadia it will take you about 1 hour to drive there. You can also choose to go by bus and also some tour operators organise tours of this village.
Olympos is a village where Greek traditions still exist in abundance. Where the women still walk around in traditional costumes. Years ago, you could only get to Olympos by boat via Diafani. There was a dirt road from Pigadia, but this was strongly discouraged. Now there is an asphalted way so you can now get to the village on your own.
Although it's a traditional village it got more crowded with tourists over time. Still nothing too crazy and if you go to this village off-season or on a day the bus doesn't go there you'll find the village in peace. It's nice to walk around the village and enjoy the beautiful views, the church in the centre and the souvenir shops. In town are also multiple restaurants and cafés to stop for a drink or food.
One of our favourite spots for a coffee and a snack is Parthenon. Also, don't forget the beautiful photo spots that we've mentioned in the guide as well that are located in Olympos!
Keep in mind: on the 15th of August people in Greece celebrate the day of the Virgin Mary. Other villages on Karpathos celebrate this day as well, but the main event is in Olympos. It's always very busy this day in Olympos of course, but if you're up for it you should go for sure!
