If you’re looking for something unique to do in Charleston, shark tooth hunting on Morris Island is an adventure you won’t want to miss - and Charleston Outdoor Adventures delivers! Led by expert naturalists, this trip takes you to an uninhabited stretch of beach where you’ll dig into millions of years of history—well maybe not dig, because that's illegal, but they'll teach you tips and tricks for spotting shark teeth in the sand. You’ll learn all about South Carolina’s fossil past, local wildlife, and get hands-on experience hunting for prehistoric treasures.

The adventure kicks off at Bowens Island, right next to Folly Beach. From there, you’ll cruise through the stunning marshlands (keep an eye out for dolphins!) before landing on the remote, untouched North end of Morris Island. Then the real fun begins—a 4-6 mile round trip hike to a secret spot where shark teeth and fossils are just waiting to be found. And the best part? You’re guaranteed to find something! Nothing is ever planted - the team just has years of experience hunting, and knows the "secret spots" for it.

Charleston and its surrounding islands are some of the best places in the world for shark tooth hunting, and you might come across teeth from makos, tiger sharks, great whites, and even the legendary megalodon—whose teeth are as big as your hand! But it doesn’t stop at sharks—you could uncover fossils from all different types of animals.

It's super hands on, and open to all ages. Definitely a fun experience.

What to Bring:

  • Water to stay hydrated

  • Sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses for protection

  • Comfy walking shoes that can handle some sand

  • A phone or camera—you’ll want proof of your epic discoveries

  • A backpack to carry your treasures back

So if you’re up for a one-of-a-kind experience that’s part treasure hunt, part history lesson, and all-around fun, shark tooth hunting on Morris Island is an absolute must.
