Tucked just off King Street, 167 Raw Oyster Bar is Charleston's quintessential spot for seafood lovers. With its New England roots and Charleston flair, this lively restaurant serves up some of the freshest seafood in town. The intimate space is modern yet welcoming, with a bustling energy that matches the vibrant flavors coming out of the kitchen.

What’s the crowd like?

This place is always buzzing. Expect a mix of locals and visitors who know a good thing when they see it. Groups of friends, couples, and even solo diners pack the tables and bar, sharing oysters and cocktails while soaking in the lively atmosphere. Be prepared to wait—167 Raw doesn’t take reservations, and the waitlist can get long, but it’s all part of the experience.

What should we be drinking?

The bar here is as impressive as the food.

  • 167 Dirty Martini – A classic martini elevated with oyster brine and an optional oyster garnish. A briny, bold sip that pairs perfectly with seafood.

  • Frozen Drinks – A rotating selection of refreshing frozen cocktails that are perfect for Charleston’s heat.

  • Passionfruit Coquito – Tropical and indulgent, this drink blends passionfruit, pineapple, and coconut for a sip of paradise.

  • Off-Menu Gems – Midweek specials like the Army Navy Riff. Be sure to ask what’s available!

Main event: the food. What not to miss.

The menu is small but mighty, focusing on high-quality, impeccably sourced seafood.

  • Oysters – The star of the show. Their rotating selection is clearly labeled with origins and salinity levels, so you can find your perfect match.

  • Caviar Service – Waffle-shaped potato chips with crème fraîche and onion make for a simple yet indulgent bite.

  • Daily Crudo – Always creative and refreshing. If bluefin tuna or hiramasa is on the menu, don’t hesitate.

  • Ceviche – Bright, citrusy, and a perfect starter.

  • Pasta Specials – Housemade and incredible. Favorites include Lobster Agnolotti and King Crab Mafaldine.

  • Po’Boys & More – The scallop po’boy is my go-to, but don’t overlook the tuna burger or the lobster roll. For something unique, the swordfish pastrami is a standout.

How’s the service?

The team at 167 Raw is as passionate about seafood as they are knowledgeable. The fast-paced environment doesn’t stop them from delivering friendly, attentive service and excellent recommendations, whether it’s your first visit or your fiftieth.

What’s the real reason to visit?

167 Raw Oyster Bar is more than just a meal—it’s an experience. From the pristine seafood to the lively ambiance, every visit feels like a celebration. Whether you’re a seasoned seafood lover or just looking for an unforgettable bite in Charleston, this spot will not disappoint.

📍 Pro Tip: This place get's packed. I recommend going for lunch during the week - especially a Monday before noon - to avoid the line. Otherwise, Plan to wait 1-1.5 hours for a table at dinner on the weekend, and 2+ hours in the summer. Stroll by, put your name on their list, and then go get drinks nearby while you wait for them to let you know your table is ready.
