The Obelisco de Buenos Aires is a famous monument and the ultimate icon of the city, located at the intersection of avenues Corrientes and 9 de Julio.

Towering over the world's widest boulevard at 67.5 meters, it was built in just 31 days back in 1936 to celebrate the city's 400th birthday.

Designed by architect Alberto Prebisch, this landmark is a symbol of Buenos Aires. People flock by the thousands here to celebrate and to protest, it is the city's meeting point.

For the postcard shot with the ivy covered BA sign, you'll have to line up and wait for your turn.

However, my favorite angle is from the staircase viewing platform caddy-corner from the Obelisco on Diagonal Norte (seen in two photos above, one of me and one of my son). I love to stand here and watch the symphony of traffic below.
