It's easy to buy winter clothing in Switzerland. Perhaps you are doing a short trip here and realize you are underdressed. Or maybe you showed up to the mountain and realized you forgot your gloves.

Switzerland has many different kinds of stores in Switzerland for winter clothing, from large sports retailers to department stores to small boutiques. But some are better than others depending on what you are looking for: wide selection, top high end brands, or affordable prices.

Below are some suggestions on where to shop for outdoor sport clothing and equipment in Switzerland. Learn more in my full article.

DECATHLON

This is the most affordable sports store in Switzerland. They don’t carry all the well-known outdoor brands, but rather primarily sell products from their own very affordable Quechua brand. Although the selection is somewhat limited, you can usually get what you need if you’re not too picky about color and style. https://www.decathlon.ch/

MIGROS SPORTXX

SportXX is the sport and outdoor equipment arm of the Migros brand. They carry most common outdoor brands like Salomon, Mammut, The North Face, Merrell, Columbia, etc. They also have a house brand, Trevolution, that is much more affordable, particularly for kids clothing.

On their online shop, you can see which stores have the item you want so you can reserve it and go try it on. www.sportxx.ch

OCHSNER SPORT

Ochsner Sport has a wide selection of high quality sports and outdoor gear, slightly better selection than SportXX and also slightly higher prices. They have a more affordable house brand called 46N for both clothing and equipment. They have large stores in all the big cities and smaller shops in the big ski villages. www.ochsnersport.ch

INTERSPORT

Intersport is a large sports retailer carrying many high quality popular brands. In ski villages, Intersport is often the main ski rental shop, with adjacent shop for gear. In these smaller shops, the selection may be limited and prices higher. It's good in a pinch, but not my first stop. www.intersport.ch

TRANSA

Transa carries high end, high quality brands with a wide selection. Although their prices are usually too high for my budget, it’s a fun place to shop just to see all that’s available. They have a giant store in Europaallee near the Zürich main train station. www.transa.ch

SPORT BOUTIQUES

Most big Swiss cities and some of the bigger ski village have stores for popular outdoor brands like Mammut, Burton, The North Face, and Patagonia. I would only visit these if you have a particular brand loyalty as the selection can be quite limited. I do like visiting them at the beginning and end of season when they typically have sales on last season's inventory.
