Staðarborg is an pretty interesting sheep shelter located in the Reykjanes Geopark. The exact time of construction is not known but it's believed to be at least a few hundred years old. The story goes that initially the shelter was supposed to be higher and with a roof. A worker was hired to build it for the local priest but after the priest realised that the shelter would stand higher than the church he forbid the worker to continue. The worker got angry and left and since then it has stood like it is today. The shelter is nothing you can't miss but if you're in the area and looking for a quick little mission then this could very well be it! The walk there and back might around an hour but the walk is pretty easy.

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: An historical sheep shelter on the Reykjanes peninsula.

  • Best season: Any.

  • Best time of day: Any.

  • Nice to know: The walk there and back takes around an hour in total. This probably doesn't qualify as a must-see but definitely an interesting spot with a bit of a funny history.
