An absolute must see in Vilnius is Lukiškės Prison, a historic and eerie prison that operated from 1837 until its closure in 2019. Over the years it housed various political prisoners and revolutionaries throughout its dark past, and much of it has been left untouched since closing, preserving its haunting atmosphere.

We highly reccomend doing an evening tour of Lukiškės Prison, which provides a deep dive into the prison’s role in Lithuanian history, including its use during both World Wars and the Soviet era. Doing an evening tour makes it even more eerie and haunting, as you'll be walking around in the dark!

Since closing in 2019, parts of the prison have been transformed into a cultural space hosting art installations, concerts and events; it was even a filming location for Stranger Things Season 4!

A daytime tour costs €15 and an evening tour costs €20.
