I won’t lie, getting to this DOC campsite is a bit of a mission. The drive to the northernmost point of the Coromandel Peninsula is long, winding, and on a narrow gravel road that might make you a little uneasy if you’re not a fan of heights. But trust me, the effort is so worth it.
This DOC campsite costs $15 per person per night, but if you have a DOC campsite pass, it's free. The setup is super basic, drop toilets, no water, and no designated spots. It’s first in, best served, so come prepared with everything you need, because once you’re in, you’ll need to take that same road back out.
The best part? You can park right on the golden sand beach. It’s absolutely stunning, and the perfect spot to wake up to the sound of the waves. Plus, the Muriwai Coastal Walk starts right from the campsite, making it a super convenient base for exploring this wild and remote corner of the Coromandel.
