The Jerónimos Monastery or Hieronymites Monastery is a former monastery of the Order of Saint Jerome near the Tagus river in the parish of Belém, in the Lisbon Municipality, Portugal.

The Jerónimos Monastery, also known as the Hieronymite Monastery in Santa Maria de Belém, Lisbon, is a magnificent former monastery of the Order of Saint Jerome. It was built by King Manuel I in the early 1500s near the launch point of Vasco da Gama's famous first journey. A fascinating combination of Portuguese Gothic and Manueline architecture, the monastery is golden in colour due to its lime-stone walls and intricate carvings. It became the necropolis of the royal dynasty of Aviz in the 16th century and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1983, along with the nearby Tower of Belém. It is a majestic structure that still impresses visitors today.
